Background and Experience

Ivan Huang is an IAF (International Association of Facilitator) Certified Professional Facilitator and a core member in the Open Quest facilitation team.

Ivan originally worked in the field of ecology and has been concerned about biodiversity and sustainability issues. From the experience he discovered that the dialogue among multiple stakeholders is crucial for the sustainability transition of human society. Inspired by Peter Senge’s “The Fifth Discipline” , Ivan started to learn facilitation with the purpose of facilitating dialogue among stakeholders. Afterward, he joined Open Quest and practiced facilitation mostly in public sectors, NGOs, and educational institutions.

During 2015-2017, Ivan went to Europe to study systems thinking and obtained “European Master in Systems Dynamics” and “MSc in Business Administration” from Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands). While he was studying in Europe, Ivan kept practicing facilitation. For example, he designed and facilitated workshops for local cooperative in Portugal and NGO in the Netherlands. In addition, he also studied Chris Argyris’s Action Science and Organizational Learning when he was in Europe. The fields he has conducted studies in recent years include Adaptive Leadership, Strategic Planning, and Problem Solving.

After returning to Taiwan in 2017, Ivan has been dedicating himself to the following threads of work:

  1. Facilitation in Organizational Development and Public Issues: Provide facilitation service for various kinds of organizations, and the topics include organizational development, strategic planning, team integration, and cross-organizational stakeholder collaboration.

  2. Systems Thinking Training and Consulting: Provide in-house training, public program, and consulting service on systems thinking, and support the application of systems thinking in the education field of Taiwan.

  3. Projects on Translation and Interpretation for Facilitation-Related Topics: Provide translation and interpretation services for topics related to facilitation, leadership and organizational development.

  4. Community Building: Participate as a volunteer for Facilitator Forum to promote facilitation in Taiwan, and share personal learning and insights by writing articles.
